The short version. Your journal and everything derived from it (your themes, your reflections, your wellness readings) are created and stored
only in your browser, encrypted with a key derived from your passphrase. We cannot read them. The
only thing that ever reaches us is the
email address (and optional name) you enter to create an account.
What we receive — and what we don't
- We receive: your email address, an optional display name, and the fact that you created an account — sent once, at signup, so we can recognise your account and send occasional product updates.
- We never receive: a single word of your journal, your imported messages, your reflections, your themes, your voice, or your heart/breath readings. None of it is uploaded, and there is no server that can decrypt it.
Where your content lives
- Your entries are encrypted in your browser with AES-GCM, under a key derived from your passphrase (PBKDF2). They are stored locally (IndexedDB) on your device.
- This is zero-knowledge: we hold no key, no passphrase, and no copy of your content. A lost passphrase and lost Recovery Key means the data is gone for good — encrypted beyond anyone's reach, including ours. That is by design.
- You can verify this yourself: open your browser's Network tab while using the app — you will see no requests carrying your content.
No tracking, no ads, no AI ingestion
- No third-party analytics, no advertising, no trackers, no cookies beyond what keeps you logged in on your own device.
- Your words are never sent to any cloud AI or used to train any model. Your twin is built only from your own writing, on your own device.
Wellness readings
Heart-rate and breathing readings (camera / motion) are computed entirely on your device and stored only there. They are reflective, never a diagnosis or medical advice. SelfTwin is not a medical device.
Reflects, never advises
SelfTwin mirrors your own words back to you. It does not give advice, instructions, or professional, medical, legal, or mental-health guidance, and it is not a substitute for any of them. If you are in distress, please reach out to a qualified professional or a local helpline.
Your choices
- Try without an account: you can use SelfTwin without signing up — nothing is stored until you choose to create an account.
- Delete your data: your content is on your device — clearing the app's site data removes it. To remove your email from our list, contact us (below).
- Export: you can export your encrypted twin at any time and carry it to another device.
Terms of use (in brief)
- SelfTwin is provided as is, without warranty. You use it at your own discretion.
- It is a reflective journal tool — not professional, medical, legal, or mental-health advice.
- Pro is an optional paid plan; the Free plan keeps your data and your twin yours regardless.
- Because of the zero-knowledge design, we cannot recover a lost passphrase or restore lost data.
